It used to be so easy.
Back in the day, you could get a top 3 WebRank in less than a week — almost guaranteed. (And, I’m not talking about the old days of keyword stuffing on AltaVista! Remember that?)
I’m talking about SEO since the year 2000 and beyond.
It really was easy!
Just buy a keyword laden domain, and you were all set.
Or, without a keyword-strong domain, just use those keywords in your URL by either making a keyword-based subdomain, or create subsdirectories with those keywords.
And finally, all you would need to do is publish plenty of keyword-rich content on your web pages, loaded with optimized “On-Page SEO”, using proper website structure, category linking, and easy navigation.
Well… It’s not so easy anymore.
Sure, On-Page SEO is very important. Proper website structure, design and navigation is very important. Keyword-based domains, subdomains, or other URL structure is also helpful. And, always, always — content is king.
But, again — It’s not that easy.
Backlinks from authority websites have become more and more important in order to get your site ranked well.
…And not just any back-links will do. Please note that I said “Backlinks from Authority websites”… The “Authority” part is huge.
So, if you could get a good link from DMOZ, or Yahoo Directory, a strong niche directory, etc., you would think that you’d be doing well, right?
That’s not the end of it.
You also need to have great Anchor Text Links to your site, with the keyword or keyphrase that you want to be ranked for. You see, inbound links from authority sites are just one of the elements. The next component is to be sure that the links coming to your site use the keyphrase that you want to be ranked for. (That’s “anchor text”.)
Whew.. That’s a lot of work, right?
Well, it can be.
